He also explains the difference between the two types of testing and explains the reasons why it is better to call it as mobile testing.

Hello all. Welcome to part 11 of mobile testing training series. In this session, I am going to explain the difference between mobile app testing versus mobile device testing. So you can call this mobile app testing as mobile testing. And also you can call this mobile device testing also as mobile testing. There is a confusion now, right? So hence I recommend. Okay. Whenever you are performing the testing of an application, okay. Which is installed on a particular device, you should call that as mobile app testing instead of mobile testing. Because in mobile, under mobile testing, we have mobile app testing and also mobile device testing also. Okay? Mobile testing is a vast term. You can say under that we have mobile app testing and mobile device testing. Whenever you are referring to a particular application being tested by installing, downloading and installing an device, that testing is nothing but mobile app testing. It's not mobile device testing. But if you are okay, purpose is to test the device itself. That is called as mobile device testing. If you're testing an application, okay? If you're testing an application, mobile application that is that can be downloaded installed on a mobile device, that is called as mobile application testing. But if you are testing the mobile device itself to see whether it's according to the market needs and expectations is known as mobile device testing. Guys. Okay, I'll explain more about mobile app testing and mobile device and what the difference between them. Mobile app testing is related to testing the working of the given mobile app by installing it in the supported mobile devices, okay? For example, if you are testing, let's say you are testing a app, let's say LinkedIn app, okay? You have installed LinkedIn mobile app on a mobile device and you are testing and you are testing is for you are focusing your testing on that application. Working of that particular application on a particular device, okay? That is called as mobile app testing. Okay? That is called as mobile app testing because you are testing the application that is installed on the device. Download and installed on the device, okay? But if you are testing the device itself, the mobile device itself, okay? Let's say there are popular companies in the market like Samsung, okay? Samsung is a company and we have Apple company and Xiaomi. Okay? Yamai, Realme, Redmi, okay, Oneplace, Google, Nexus. Many, many companies are there brands are in the market who are continuously releasing different versions, okay? Apple, Apple, 14, Max Pro. Okay? Then that before that we got 13, 13, Max Pro, Apple iPhone 13. Like many, many versions of this mobile devices are also getting released into the market. And here testing is required, okay? There will be separate testing units for that who are good at device testing, okay? Those. Those people, okay, Those testers, you can also call them as testers. They are not software testers, right? But they are like device testers. You can say, okay, they have a lab where they check each and everything of the device. Like whether network. Whether this particular device is supporting the network connection. Different 2G, 3G. Whatever the 5G required, it's able to whatever the screen display of that mobile device, okay? Is properly. Is clear and clarity. And all the stuff, okay? Here device perspective testing is there, okay? And whether this mobile device is supporting all the top, okay. Mobile applications that are there in the market. For example, if this mobile device is not supporting LinkedIn due to some XYZ reasons, okay? But other mobile devices are supporting LinkedIn. So that kind of approach, guys, you have to say here focuses testing the device whether it is supporting the application, okay? Whereas mobile application testing is different where you are testing the application which is installed on the device. But in mobile device testing, you are testing the device itself, okay? In different ways to see whether it is kind of good to be released into the market. Because before a particular company release its particular version of the mobile device into the market, it has to. That particular mobile device has to go through the mobile device testing is because can call mobile application app testing as mobile testing. Mobile device testing also as mobile testing. So there will be a confusion if. If you talk to some person saying that mobile testing, there's a kind of ambiguity where you are referring to mobile app testing or mobile device testing. That's the ambiguity, okay? Mobile testing is a V term. So it's better when you are testing an application that is installed on the device. You better mention it as mobile app testing. When you are testing the mobile device itself. That is very rare for the software testers. Guys will be separate people who will be doing that mobile device testing. But as software tester, we should have this idea of what is mobile device testing. That's the reason I'm covering here, okay? Whereas mobile device testing is related to testing of the mobile device itself, we are not testing the working of the application functional here. Rather, we are testing the mobile device itself. In case of mobile app testing, we are testing the working of the mobile app, okay? Sometimes device testing is also called as mobile testing. That already I told you, right? Mobile app testing and mobile device testing are generally called as mobile testing as a. Because mobile testing is a V term. But it will lead to ambiguity. Better it's better to call it as mobile app testing rather than mobile testing. When you are actually testing an application working functionality of the application that is installed on the mobile. Okay. It's better to do like that. Okay. Call with a specific names mobile app testing, mobile device testing, like that and so on. Like whether the mobile device that is manufactured by a particular company, produced by a company is actually suitable for the different network connections. Okay. Over the air testing. Okay. How it is working over the air and top apps testing, it's supporting the top top applications or not. Google messaging services, it's supporting or not Compatibility test, it's compatible with different things or not. Okay. Different Bluetooth devices and all those stuff. Okay. Field testing. It's they test in the field like whether this device is operable in the field, factory testing and all those stuff. Okay. So for example here this person who has written the article that is Vikas Sharma on this website and has clearly given example. Like for example a ZOM company is going to launch a new model of MI devices. A new version of MI device, MI smartphone is coming let's say. Okay, so how the testing as a device itself will be performed in that case. Okay Here so a prototype will be there and a detailed version is there. Okay. Here focuses completely on the on the device guys. Okay. EVT testing, engineering verification testing is performed at the alpha phase. Okay. Whether the that particular device is meeting the specifications. Okay. Any critical problems are there for getting released into the market or not? Okay. Design verification testing according to the design got developed or not. Then after design then what is a design verification testing. Then all the product specification, interface standards, okay. Diagnostic commands and all this device level we are testing. Okay? So it is a kind of different topic as dvd, VT pvt, All this kind of testing, product verification testing all at device level. Here we are testing, okay. A mobile device we are testing. Rather than testing the application that is installed on the device as part of mobile device testing, we are testing the device, okay? Testing the device itself. And this what is the difference between the mobile app testing and mobile device testing? Guys, both can be called as mobile testing. Hence better when you are testing the applications that are installed on the mobile devices you have to call the testing better. Specifically how to call it as mobile app testing instead of mobile testing. So but mobile testing is a boss term guys, so I'm using here for this complete tutorial. But whenever you come across a discussion where you have to talk about mobile testing, don't generally mention as a mobile testing. Better mention it as mobile app testing or mobile device testing. More more. As software testers we generally work on mobile app testing more than the mobile device testing. It's very rare that we'll be assigned to mobile devices.
