It was a symbolic day for the country because it marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of modern Turkey. Theres an aspect to advanced aircraft development thats tied to a nations prestige and international standing because being able to produce a cutting edge military technology can elevate a nations status in the global community and strengthen diplomatic with allies. Even you cant dismiss weapons programs as purely about firepower or combat. Theyre a modern day diplomatic tool as well.
